Our speaker for the October 18th meeting is Rick Rempel and his topic is “Dendrobium aberrans and its offsprings.” The talk will focus on the species, its habitat, cultivation and why it is used in breeding. He’ll  move on to examples of first and then second generation hybrids, why they’re popular and how to grow them.

Rick’s bio as provided by himself…”Back when the earth was still cooling Rick was dragged to an Orchid show and was immediately fascinated and smitten. Since that time he has served numerous positions with his local orchid society (Niagara Region) and is currently president. A life in agriculture and horticulture has allowed him to continue his fascination with plants and their specific needs. Rick lives in Welland Ontario. He is currently an Accredited Judge with the Toronto Judging Centre, and an editor with the Slipper Orchid Alliance Journal.”

As is customary, the meeting will take place at RBG Headquarters, 680 Plains Road West in Burlington, in room 5 (subject to confirmation). The formal meeting starts at 2 pm but you are invited to arrive as early as 1:30 to socialize and interact with vendors. Bring your beautiful orchids in bloom for the Show Table and any orchids or related paraphernalia for the raffle. Members and guests welcome.
