The Annual OSRBG Picnic/BBQ will be held at Gretta’s home in Ancaster. Arrival is any time after 1 pm. Members and significant others are invited. An email with address information is being sent to all members. If other details are needed, please contact any member of the Executive. “Basics” are being provided by the Society, but members are invited to bring salads, desserts etc. to supplement the menu. Plants or other orchid-related items for the raffle are also appreciated. Event goes ahead rain or shine.

AGM and Strawberry Social: Sunday June 25, 2017
All OSRBG members are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting on Sunday June 25, 2017 in Room 5, Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Road W., Burlington Ontario. The meeting starts at 2 pm but you are invited to arrive any time after 1 pm to socialize and interact with vendors. Following the business meeting, there will be more time for socializing over strawberry-themed treats. Contributions to the pot-luck are appreciated (finger food only, please). Also, if you have orchid plants to sell or trade, this is a good opportunity to do so.

Our speakers for the May meeting will be Terry and Doug Kennedy from Orchids in our Tropics. Terry and Doug need no introduction to Orchid Show attendees, as Terry is a senior AOS judge and Doug is a regular vendor at shows, and their orchid displays frequently feature award-winning plants. Their topic on this occasion will be “Dendrobiums: A Primer.” The meeting will take place in Room 5 (subject to confirmation), Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Road West, Burlington, Ontario. London Orchid Society Show – 2017

A special invitation to new members who may have joined the Society at the Annual Show –and to existing members– to attend a hands-on potting session, to be held in Room 5, Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Road W., Burlington. The formal meeting starts at 2 pm but you are invited to arrive any time after 1 pm to socialize and interact with vendors. If you have a plant that may need re-potting, bring it along and our experts, Pat Vuurman and Ben Boers, will give you some advice and assistance. Potting media will be provided, but you need to bring pots, secateurs (and gloves if you are so inclined). If all your potting is up to date, come anyway to assist others and work on plants from the RBG collection.

Ben Boers, Director for the OSRBG Show coming up on February 25/26 2017 will talk about what will be happening, when and where, and how you can get the most out of this year’s Orchid Show. Remember, we count on our members to act as ambassadors to help any members of the public who need assistance or information. Ben will also touch on prepping your plants to bring them to our show (or to any orchid show) for display, including cleaning them and transporting them in foul weather.
