In May 2025, Karen told us about a project that she has undertaken to highlight the diversity of native species in our area and to focus on &#8220;at risk&#8221; and endangered plants, birds and other wildlife . She calls the project &#8220;Our Fragile Environment&#8221;. This month Karen will provide an update on her project and walk the audience through the process of developing the work including the latest information on the Natural Areas Inventory that is currently taking place. She will show the new website and different booklets currently available to the public and discuss how they can be accessed and used to help people identify and understand the species found in our region including what native orchids should be found in the Hamilton area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to being the Treasurer of OSRBG and the organizer of the art portion of our Annual Orchid Show, Karen is an award-winning artist and community leader, a member and board member of several arts\u2019 organizations and has been exhibiting her work in both group and solo exhibitions since 2008. Her work has been shown and included collections throughout  Southern Ontario as well as in Florida and China. Her series \u201cOur Fragile Environment\u201d has been growing since 2019. Currently including over 110 paintings done using Chinese Brush Painting techniques and materials on semi absorbent Mulberry rice paper, the series highlights  the beauty and diversity of nature and the need to protect our precious ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As is customary, the meeting will take place at RBG Headquarters, 680 Plains Road West in Burlington, in room 5 (subject to confirmation). The formal meeting starts at 2 pm but you are invited to arrive as early as 1:30 to socialize and interact with vendors. Bring your beautiful orchids in bloom for the Show Table and any orchids or related paraphernalia for the raffle.
